Hugo Assunção

 

Born in Leiria in 1969, Hugo Assunção began his musical studies with his father and started playing the trombone in a local Wind Band - Sociedade Filarmónica Vestiariense (Vestiaria-Alcobaça). He fcontinued his studies in the National Conservatorium with Emídio Coutinho. Hugo has freelanced with several orchestras and has been Professor at all the major music institutions. Hugo Assunção has given master-classes throughout the country and was founding member of the Portuguese Trombone Ensemble, Portuguese Brass Dectet and Hot Brass Quintet. In 1988, he won the position of Principal Trombone with the Opera National Theatre (São Carlos) and two years later became a member of the Hot Club Big Band (Lisbon). He is currently Professor of Trombone at the University of Évora and Piaget Institute in Almada, Hugo Assunção is Principal Trombone with the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra since its foundation, in 1993.
